On My Shelf : Elle Decoration Philippines

For this month's "On My Shelf", I am pleased to welcome the Elle Decoration's latest addition to it's worldwide network of home magazines - Elle Decoration Philippines! Published by Summit Publishing Inc., this is the 26th edition of the global brand, favored by over nine million readers worldwide, including myself. I personally am a fan of Elle Decor USA, especially because of the familiarity of the trade suppliers there and the designers. But EDP is just something I'm excited about, as I have been waiting for something like this to happen in the local scene. I am sure, now that we have the EDP, we will be seeing more ED worthy homes - and that means really chic and luxurious designs from the local front.

I must say the premier issue lived up to my expectations. First and foremost, they've got a beautiful cover for their first issue, which makes you want to buy and check out the rest of the pages. I also noticed most high-end brands for the ad pages living up to it's standard as a luxurious magazine, catered to the upper niche market. The photos are very well done most especially the special report on the indigenous materials used by the local furniture industry. The lighting in the photos, the texture and the styling are gorgeous and were very well thought of. Well, except for that one page showing a drafting table, which I found just alright, all the other pictures were excellent. Most importantly, I love the featured homes from the Philippines. I loved specifically the Batangas home, designed by architects Ricardo Cuerva and Tisha de Borja, which is also featured in the cover. Again, the pictures are beautifully done and are at par with the other Elle Decor magazines.

The magazine is also very reader-friendly. The lay-out is pretty much the same as ED USA, and with the same kind of font for the text of the articles. The magazine is organized into sections namely, Now (list of what's new), Shopping (selection of great home finds), Decorating (easy updates and ideas for inspiration), Homes (the world's most beautiful homes) and Focus (detailed look at one zone of the home). They also have a Special Section, which for this month they featured the the designers of the upcoming Manila FAME (which opens today at the SMX).
